On Tuesday, August 17, 2010, mentor only training will begin for the New Pathways teen program.  This will be the third year that Phoenix Youth At Risk has partnered with Coronado High School to conduct this mentoring program on-site.

As the Volunteer Recruiter for PYAR, I am looking to sign up at least 35 caring adults (must be 21 and over to mentor) to be part of the program that will start up again in the fall of 2010.

It is a 10 month commitment.  We train our mentors one night a week for four weeks in a row to introduce them to the curriculum that will be used with the youth.   Immediately following this training we have the community of mentors meet the teens who volunteered to be part of this program.  Next, all the mentors and youths attend an Intensive Retreat from a Thursday morning until a Sunday afternoon at a camp in Prescott, AZ.  This is truly a transformational type of weekend.

At the conclusion of the retreat, you will be matched one on one with a youth.  The program then continues for 9 months during which youth take on projects for their lives and mentors support them in their journey.

It is our intention to begin this program anew every August.  It would be my great pleasure to address a group of Coronado alumni of any size at any time to go over this in greater detail.  Love to present at gatherings in people‚Äôs homes.  Make it fun.

Please call Sylvia Brekke at 602-481-0212 (cell) or email her at Sylvia.brekke@phoenixyouthatrisk.org to set up some meetings.  In the meantime, check out our website at www.phoenixyouthatrisk.org and watch the video and read up on the New Pathway program.
